You can get a LVN Certification in a relatively short amount of time, but you need to put some persistence and effort in this process. The demand for nurses is quite high these days, but even so the LVN programs have limited student seats each year. If you want to maximize your chances of being accepted, you should apply to several schools that have LVN programs. Before applying you should take into consideration these aspects:
1. Applying & Acceptance
In order to be accepted you must have a GED or high school diploma. The first step is to apply to the college that hosts the program. The second step is to apply for the desired branch in the nursing program. Check at each school to which you are applying for the exact paperwork needed for your application. Some programs may require drug tests, criminal background, shots, etc.
2. Financial Assistance
Government loans and grants are available to help pay fees and tuition. Using the fafsa.ed.gov site you can fill out an application using the school codes where you applied and they will tell you which ones award loans and grants.
3. Textbooks and Fees
In state universities, schools tuition is quite expensive. You can find lower tuition prices on local or junior colleges. Textbooks can also be quite expensive, but you can buy most of the books online to save money.
4. Clinical Rotations
Practice and hands-on experience are the most important elements that will determine your success in LVN courses. You will have to go regularly to a hospital in order to practice your skills. Even if you find clinical rotation quite difficult, keep in mind that this is the most effective way to will increase the learning curve and acquire experience.
5. Licensing
After you complete the course you will need to take the LVN exam (NCLEX-PN). After that you can take the LVN state license exam.
